Ordinarily, in any other deck, we might see shooting stars, or wands flaming through the sky to convey the energy of this card. Here we see a priestess atop a panda, her path lit with blessings, providing comfort in the dark. So instead of feeling the rushing energy of activation, we instead see the gentle supportive affirmation of help on our side. Blessings big and small are starting to arrive, helping to light the way for us in the big, bad forest we are marching through. We know we’re off to somewhere important and it’s good to finally start seeing spirit acknowledge and help in our quest.

How many of us were raised with ideals that included some form of “tough love”? How often did that version of touch love include shame, derision, belittling, gaslighting, or mockery? How often have we seen that replicated in our power structures of humanity – the superiority of someone in authority making others feel small to establish dominance rather than leadership? If you’re happy with how the world has turned out, how people with power make everyone else jump through meaningless hoops to prove their worth (or you know, to survive), then this card isn’t for you. But for the rest of us who have been hurt by a world propped up with such cruel intentions, then we are called to step forward as leaders of a new kind – one that nurtures more than hinders, that gives life rather than restricts it. And just as the earth begins to reclaim her territory if we just leave well enough alone, let this new nurturance grow within to re-wild our hearts toward one of collective love instead of harsh separation.

Temptation

Advice from a visionary: the moment you are most needed to step up into a new life is the moment you’ll be most tempted to give into the old one. This constantly happened to me in the first few years of my calling and is always present during June (the anniversary of my calling). Once upon a time, my mom and I called it the Devil, trying to tempt me to give in, to not keep my vigil for the anniversary, or to say “no” to my calling. I would resist that temptation, reaffirm myself joyfully, and remember that no how tempted I might be to say no, saying yes was the braver task. Right now a lot of us are starting new chapters of our lives – but we find ourselves tempted to give in to what was once so normal for us. The temptation to go back to old lovers, to move back to where we started, to take on that work that once came so easy to us is so strong…but this card is advising us to see it for what it is – to get us to give up on the impossible dreams we have, to go back to the gluttony of consumerism that is hurting the world. This is a sign that going back now will not bring the satisfaction or reward we would get if we chose to keep moving forward. Trust this sign.

Words have meaning for they carry deep magic to the surface, activating our intentions by placing them in the real world through the gift of sound. Words can be deep and soothing or activating and forceful. Every word we choose carries a deep magic. As we each are going forth into the world, we are tasked with responsibility for our words. That means choosing our words with care and conveying the truth of our intentions. Imagine if every word we spoke were to manifest directly and decide whether we are willing to take responsibility for those words. If not, then begin exercising the self-discipline of saying only what you mean, speaking only what you intend to create. No more “I didn’t mean it”.

This new world that we are entering – one that is more directly fulfilling and more deeply understanding, will take some getting used to. We have to learn to crawl before we can walk, walk before we can run. Don’t expect to be an expert at everything right out of the gate. Expect to stumble, laugh it off, and try again. This vulnerability has a purpose. If we approach the world with this kind of child-like wonder, we’ll more readily understand how important it is that we make the world safe, even for the people who are brand new to all of this.

This is a card of radical rest. Mother Mary invites us to recognize that our lives were not meant to be sacrificed for our causes but to be a daily choice we make to do what we can to make the most amount of good. We are meant, each day to meet ourselves where we are to know what our capacity is. Especially as people are suffering from fatigue, depression, trauma, grief, and illnesses, we need to allow ourselves the sanctity of rest – giving what we can, instead of pushing ourselves toward inevitable sacrifice. Even angels are meant to survive to fight another day.

All that promised sunshine in the readings this year is now in the undercurrent, the long-term influence that is feeding us from within. The light is replenishing in our lives. We feel less burdened, more alive and authentic than we’ve gotten to feel before this. Feel the power building within and begin to tap into it as we encounter more of that internal power and glow that is organically ours to shine.

We are all too familiar with the verbal dance of a stalemate. the back-and-forth, bitter arguments that get us nowhere. The advice this week is to use those moments of a stalemate to change the tune, to throw the opponent off their game with the unexpected. For me, that usually means employing shared humor -not poking fun at them but at our predicament. But for you that could mean shifting the narrative, trying on the opposite viewpoint, changing the tempo, or experimenting with new ways to frame the issue. Sometimes the only way to get the advantage is to lean into the problem with curiosity and openness.
