Intro Notes to the Deck & Reading
For those of you following me on social media, you’re already aware that our family is going through yet another transition – sudden job loss compounded by repairs to the sewer line under our house. Last week was utterly stressful and so I found myself often coming back to the reading to remember my own advice.
This week’s reading with El Tarot Deck, a Loteria-themed deck is a fun play on the traditional tarot. I tend to dislike pip cards that only show the numbers and not a more engaging image. And while this week only brings one major card out to play, the majors in this deck are well worth it – my favorite being the Empress of course!
Yesterday patrons got more detailed chakra advice to activate or soothe the energies that are coming through in this reading. Not a member yet? Join here: https://www.patreon.com/RoseGoldHeart

Where We Are This Week

Nueve (9) de Wands
Third Eye Chakra
It’s been hard to see how far we’ve come. It feels like each day is its own fresh challenge. We can manage them, of course, because we’re bad-ass warriors who have fought for survival, but there is just a point where the exercise of constantly pushing off one threat after another starts to wear you down. It’s hard to feel like we’ve gained any ground at all. But that’s because our vision is crowded by the immediate threats making a sort of fog around our third eye, keeping us from seeing how far we’ve come. Yes, we have a ways to go still – but we have greater strength, resilience, and resolve than we ever thought possible.
Messages from our Guides

Ocho (8) of Cups (R)
Heart Chakra
The eight of cups reversed when we are hanging onto a hope that has a very small chance of realistic fulfillment. Especially when it comes to relationships. Some of us are holding out hope for a hero that won’t ever come, an apology that will never be uttered, a sense of justice, change, and remorse from someone incapable of giving that to us. We can believe in people without putting our lives on hold waiting for them to come around to who we need them to be. Hold on to what was precious about that connection, but leave the rest behind otherwise, it will forever tether your power to someone else’s change.
Messages from Lady Gaia/Mother Earth

Sies (6) de Bitcoins
Root Chakra
We’re starting to turn a corner with this position which has been a reasonable mix of cranky and concerned. Right now, there is an urge for us to recognize how dearly supported we really are. Despite all the hardships we are facing right now, the threats to our own safety and security are starting to lift enough that we’re finding where our abundance lies. Each of us has varying degrees of privilege operating for and against us at any given time, both personal and societal. This card is meant to get us to stop staring at our navel burrowing into that privilege further and instead activate it to help lift up others. For example, contributing even $5 towards mutual aid organizations can help pay for daily necessities like food or transportation, or life-altering access to bail or housing. How can you transform your privilege into community prosperity that benefits more than just you?
Messages from the Ancients

Knight de Bitcoins (r)
Solar Plexus Chakra
All this trying to fit in is costing us more than we’re gaining. The perceived safety of our conformity ends up draining us of the motivation and courage we need to truly shine as we are. The ancients and ancestors are urging us to take control over our own lives, our own identities and stop trying to blend in to fit in. We were born to stand out even if it might cost us what security we think we have. Better to have lived and died honestly than to perpetuate a lie that only benefits a few.
Messages from Our Future Selves

El Hanged One (R)
Crown Chakra
You realize these things happen in cycles, right? Just like last week’s handed man in the center of all our problems, helping us lean into the upside-down world we’re in right now, the future holds a cycle of resistance – where we either aren’t doing the work or are so stubbornly refusing new knowledge that we end up getting trapped anyway. The stubbornness of our older selves doesn’t have to take root if we prioritize new learning and honest feedback now. We don’t have to be so disrupted by the world by being so firmly attached to only one reality. Consider other ways now before we’re stuck in a trap of our own making.
Messages from Mother Mary

Knight de Wands
Solar Plexus Chakra
Do you know the difference between can and cannot? Faith. Faith in others. Faith in the universe. But especially faith in ourselves. Because if we think we can do something, more often than not we can make that happen. That’s what the Knight of Wands is about – the possibility of faith. The confidence that the arrow will hit its mark, not because we’re better than anyone, but because we believe in ourselves enough to make it happen. Not every “can’t” is an excuse, but for the ones that are – we need to identify where our lack of faith in ourselves is holding us back. Often our passion and authenticity is the missing spark between where we are now and our potential.
Undercurrents

Ocho (8) de Swords
Sacral Chakra
This is less of a warning and more of a statement of fact. We are all facing the mini-deaths of prisons that are holding us tightly bound to old versions of ourselves. While we do have the ability to free ourselves of this, and we are already doing that, it’s just going to take some time. All this card acknowledges this week is the collective pain in the undercurrent of realizing how our systems have imprisoned us into reliving our worst selves over and over – a self-perpetuating shame machine meant to keep us from understanding and accepting our true selves. Stay the course, keep doing the work. It will be worth it in the end, but it will still take some time to get to a true sense of liberation.
Final Advice

Ace de Swords (R)
Throat Chakra
One of the problems with all our good intentions is that in our eagerness to prove ourselves, we’ll wind up tripping all over ourselves in an effort and could do more damage in the short term. An example would be coming in like a savior with a “brilliant idea” that will help a community, but it’s based on assumptions informed by bias or ignorance. Likewise, it’s the inelegant way we just offer unsolicited solutions to our friends’ problems, when all they needed was a supportive place to vent or seek shelter from life’s storms. Temper the impulse to add our 2 cents to every conversation and wait until asked before offering a solution – otherwise, we could just be shooting them or ourselves in the foot.
Parting words from a Geek Empress
It’s appropriate that the theme that comes up for me with this deck speaks so directly wito my Chicana background. Growing up in southern Colorado I know too well how often we were fed the false line that we’re lazy, unteachable, and unable to make it in higher education (so much so that I exposed two different school leaders who believed this, dragging them through community accountability processes, an experience that launched my legal career). While I certainly defied that stereotype, I had the advantage of privilege to shield me. How often did I hear my peers offer a perfectly reasonable rationale why homework wasn’t done on time (better than my half-assed forgetfulness) and be greeted with “stop making excuses”? And yet, for almost every Chicano we know, we were raised with such a strict work ethic that to see the excuses as anything other than structural or institutional barriers is delusional.
This line from Once Upon a Time in Mexico has stayed with me all these years later and is in alignment with the knight of wands energy above. We may not be able to eliminate every barrier in the way, but we can certainly relieve ourselves of the burden of doubt we carry with us everywhere. You know the one – the mindset that says we can’t – when the only thing standing in our way is our own lack of faith in ourselves.
No matter what happens this week, remember I am with you always in love 💖
