Intro Notes to the Deck & Reading
This post is coming to you under the light of a full moon, at that a Blue Moon and a supermoon during a Mercury Retrograde. Astrologically speaking, let’s just say if things seem upside down in the reading below, you can chalk it up to this influence. Which isn’t bad or fated, just something to be mindful of as we progress through the week.
We had some hints of it last week with the reversed Moon card:
Systems that rely on our compliance replicate within us, setting up fears of “not good enough” played out on a collective level. Because people can’t imagine getting along with their enemy, they lack the imagination, curiosity or vision to see what else is there…When all you see on the horizon is doom & gloom, then that’s a pretty big sign that your lens is smudged and showing you only the fear of the unknown instead of the possibilities of the true self.
If you took those lessons to heart last week, you’ll be far better able to recognize the reactionary mirrors that others around us are seeing for the first time. With the DNC starting on this full moon, Democrats and liberals (not always the same thing) will get a taste of the mirror and it will be deeply unsettling.
This doesn’t have to be bad, especially for anyone who has been paying attention. I have to confront my own mirror – why I am supporting Harris/Walz even though I am passionately pro-Palestine. While this is an ongoing conversation I have with myself, this is a conversation none of us will be able to avoid this week.
Because I’m me, a queen of sensitive souls, I hope we each recognize that our reactions and opinions are a mix of 1) hopeful thinking, 2) the distress of trauma, 3) access to (dis)information, 4) overwhelm, 5) passionate belief, and/or 6) generational experiences. None of us are immune to the lessons of the mirror – but how we react, whether we choose to lean in with curiosity or lash out with anxiety is entirely in our hands.
My utterly free advice as someone who used to work in Democratically aligned, progressive policy & politics: Offer each other some grace – none of us have had the same experience or access to education as another. This isn’t the week for stubborn points, but softened consideration. You don’t change minds or hearts with force of will, but with sharing common ground.

Even if all we were to look at was inflation, I think we can all agree that we have a lot on our plate these days. But add in generational trauma, funding genocide, fumbling through climate change and AI, housing crises and more it would make sense that all of us are feeling overwhelmed and untethered right now. For this week, do yourselves a trauma-informed favor and give one another a wide berth. Yep, it’s worth saying again. Balls are dropping all over the place because towers are crumbling, illusions are shedding like snakeskin in the grasses of summer. Let them…we all need to be less overwhelmed.

This card has made an appearance in a lot of my private readings over the last week. New deck, new energy, same message: it’s all happening. Like I’ve told folks in those readings this week, if you feel like certain themes and strengths are emerging, some opportunities glitter brighter than others – this is your sign to jump on it. Let that inspiration lead you because there is a focal point emerging for your life and you’re going to be able to follow that thread out of the messes of the past. Focus and let inner fire guide you.

Divine chaos is just as much a part of nature as ordered artistry is. Just like the brushstrokes that mark the work of a masterpiece versus a student’s first work, each of us bears the mark of imperfection and the promise of growth that helps that chaos come to fruition in nature’s grand scheme. Unfortunately for us, we’ve been so laden with guilt over those imperfections that we have difficulty navigating a world made up of nothing but that. We keep wanting to perfect our humanity, lengthen our lives. But Mother Earth reminds us that the one thing we haven’t allowed ourselves to explore is the act of being – and that has us so turned around that we can’t find up from down. Settle, listen and trust – the exact opposite of what the external world thinks is prudent.

There have been a lot of reasons to be disappointed lately. I get it. Point to any corner of the world and we find disillusionment, even in our own family lines. No matter how much love we muster, it’s hard not to feel like every cup we drink from is a fresh poison. But the ancients remind us that none of us have a choice in how long we are here on this earth. Now is the time to drink deep of life when it is offered to you. These are the moments to say “fuck it” and just try. The worst we gain is experience and stories to fuel our memories tomorrow.

Heart Chakra
The consequence of leading with the heart is that we often bear the biggest heartaches for humanity. Right now, globally, we have more access to information and disinformation than ever before. We have people getting lured into honey pot scams by people who themselves are victims of human trafficking. The world is getting more nightmarish by the day and the more we find out, the more tempted we are to dissolve into disarray. That is why so many of us have been here before and will do this again…we understand what it is to hold humanity during this great disillusionment. What many have called the “Great Awakening” isn’t a dawn of awareness, but a twilight of illusion. Because the process of awakening is anything but sweet and hopeful – it is dark in a fucked up, existential sort of way. And the only way out is through – that’s why so many of us have gone through this before – we are the lanterns lighting the way for everyone else.

To bridge the divide, the great chasm, we will have to light the way without contributing to more disillusionment and disassociation. The temptation to dislocate our attention to the more divinely inspired joys we have been able to find for ourselves will be intense. Not naturally inclined toward discipline, we’re going to have to temper our tendencies toward dreamy escape to still be present to hold humanity during its heart-wracking grief and fear. Heroes stay present instead of flying away to make everyone fend for themselves. Find balance and grounding.

Solar Plexus Chakra
This was the final card last week. How does this advice ring now? “It will become easier to see how the world is stealing our power, but that doesn’t mean it will be easier to resist. It is critical to hold tight to your values and not give up on the world, no matter how tempting it might be. Notice who benefits from sowing doubt – look beyond the immediate messengers to find the true sources of betrayal.” Unwelcome messengers have been thwarted and are shown for what they are in the undercurrent. We’re in a need vs. greed roll for our lives right now. Take back your power from those who profited from your self-doubt. You have slain this dragon and shown it who you are. There is still more boss battles to go, but this one can no longer harm.
Final Advice

Heart Chakra
Can we agree that humanity isn’t’ showing up with its best self right now? Imperfect and at times grotesquely so, there is a dopey inelegance that we need to accept. None of us are going to have the right politics. We’re still facing old wounds, giving of ourselves with more integrity than we imagined, but still falling short in ways we can’t fully explain. As someone who frequently met humanity on its worst day – when someone was too sick, distracted and fractured to know up from down, the best thing we can do is meet humanity with the same compassion we’d want on our worst day too. Sometimes it’s just asking someone “do you feel safe right now?” Other times it will be offering an extra few minutes or written instructions instead of verbal. Treat humanity as you’d want to be treated and often that’s when the light starts to shine through once again…for you and them.
Parting words from a Geek Empress
Look if we can’t have a sense of humor during Mercury Retrograde then we’re already losing one of the easiest battles of all. Full moons are always “fool moons” to me, so there’s very little that will not have me choosing laughter over anger this week. I have to go with the flow no matter what I do – so might as well have fun along the way.
That’s the attitude we need to have this week. We’re wandering in a house of mirrors. We can either obsess about how bad they make us look collectively and individually, or we can encourage each other to laugh at ourselves and realize that we’re not going to be in this state forever. No one is immune to this particular house of mirrors. If we’re not careful our mockery will backfire and suddenly we’ll be the ones in the hot seat.
This week has hot mess written all over it but that doesn’t mean the mirrors and messages aren’t worth considering. Just know that what we’re shown is just a version of reality, a distortion of the truth made manifest to lead us to the real conclusion. What we see in the beginning is not the only explanation. But just like Dirk Gently, the real adventure is in finding out how it’s all connected. Our initial impressions won’t stay that way.
In identifying the ways we are all still “under the influence” of old paradigms, I hope we offer compassion to all the other beings out there. None of us are what we seem right now. If we’re viewing others with the same distorted lens that has been applied to us, it won’t flatter anyone. Life is about to get dumb and ridiculous…the more we cling to judgment the less we’ll be able to be present when the right moment arrives.
