November 4, 2024 / TV Series Tarot
Intro Notes to the Deck & Reading
Writing this just a day before the election in the US is such a trip. I wish I could say I have predictions, but this is where my public policy mind and intuition can’t be distinguished from each other. If I see a Kamala victory is that just wishful thinking or a prediction from beyond? If I see a Trump victory is that fear or just reading the predictable legal maneuverings of a dying patriarchy? And if I predict one over the other am I lending my magic to a continued funding of genocide or to a failed fascist fantasy?
These are the questions that plague anyone who has both feet planted in both an oppressive reality and an unstructured possibility. We can’t see the shape of things to come because the myriad disappointments of an illusory world have skewed our own vision. Many of us are still trying to reckon with the “wait, the police won’t actually help me!?” level of awareness while others are in the depths of “how can I live without being complicit in capitalism”. And while many of you have come to me looking for answers and support for these questions, I am struggling with the same thing.
No matter what this week, we’ll have fewer “what ifs” hanging over our heads collectively. We’ll know who failed us and who showed up for us. We’ll know which states will claim victory and which ones are still up in the air. While new “what if”s will enter the chat, we are going to be operating from a place of empowered knowledge rather than crushing fear…for whatever that is worth.
The deck I chose this week, the TV Series Tarot, doesn’t offer much clarity. While some references on the cards are obvious (like Miami Vice for the Sun card), others are harder to identify (like the Queen of Wands in the Future Selves). This is an adequate avatar for the week – we will have answers to some things intermixed with chaotic “WTF” head-scratchers for the rest of it. The best best is to stick with the people who have shown up for you to process all of this.
As such, I am going to be offering a space on Wednesday 11/6, after the election, online for us to process together. Whether we are toasting in victory or commiserating in WTF?, if there was anything I learned from 2016 and 2020, when our very existence and fabric of reality is at risk, we need each other more than ever to reinforce our connections.
Send me a message here (or anywhere on my social media) for the link to join in the conversation (not posting it publicly for lots of reasons – but happy to share it privately with you).us could have anticipated. What better welcome could I have found for the integrated and whole version of myself than celebrating this shared love?

Where We Are This Week

Three of cups (r)
Heart Chakra
The squad that was supposed to have had our backs have failed us…for the last time. We have learned our lesson not to put too much stock in the flimsy alliances of superficial people. When the going gets tough, they just order another and laugh it off. While I feel this certainly has something to do with the macro populations that are flippant about the need for collective care (especially in voting), this is also being felt on an individual level. People have been letting us down and it’s up to us to have the self-worth to say goodbye if those connections are no longer serving our highest goals. Some friendships can’t hold the space necessary to elevate us into a higher world.
Messages from our Guides

Six of Cups (R)
Root Chakra
Borderline a sacral chakra energy, this is rooted in our memories. Many of us might feel a trauma bond to those who are responsible, either directly or indirectly, for our past and present pain. Don’t let the nostalgia of those connections, the good times you had, force you to overlook the red flags that were there all along. For example, I can have feelings about the people I used to work with, but it doesn’t excuse the ways they let predators access me, the ways they failed to protect me. Even if you went through something similar and have empathy for their struggles, that doesn’t excuse how they hurt you or will continue to.
Messages from Lady Gaia/Mother Earth

The Sun
Crown Chakra
Last week we had to reckon with the worst of our own tendencies and distractions, the scapegoats for our lack of commitment. This week we are dealing with the best of us – the inner hero and fulfilled inner child that needs to come to the forefront. We can’t experience our best until we truly understand our worst. This is a leadership quality that will show up in our visceral, real world this week. Do expect some glorious victories…but not without having seen the truth of what we still have to address and integrate in order to have the authentic world we really want.
Messages from the Ancients

Seven of Pentacles (r)
Throat Chakra
Once upon a time, there was a divine order to things…there was chaos, but also a sacred balance. Then, at some point, our species decided to try to tame the wilds of the earth in a quest for domination and control, diluting the sacred balance until it was a shell of itself. What we have been convinced is “natural” (such as women obeying their husbands) is just an illusion of control over the wild, untamed spirit. This week, I advise us to let go a little bit and let chaos reorder the deck, shaking us awake to our true nature instead of the one that serves a system of manufactured efficiency..
Messages from Our Future Selves

Queen of Wands
Solar Plexus Chakra
It’s a little hard to discern from this card, but the queen of wands is normally an empress of inspiration, a nurturer of ideas, and a bright mentor when the nights get dark and lonely. But here, I feel a sense of inhabited coldness – like someone who has taken a throne that was carved from patriarchy’s image of a cold-hearted, abusive queen. She sits but doesn’t really own that piece of furniture. She offers what wisdom she can, but until the coldness of the position wears off, we won’t see her true colors. Speaking as a Latina who has inhabited old thrones of leadership, this feels very familiar for the road I’ve already been down, one that many more will be experiencing in real-time with Madam President. (Yeah, that’s my prediction)
Messages from Mother Mary

Knight of Cups
Sacral Chakra
Whether we realize it or not, the bridge between the structured imbalances of patriarchy and a warm, generous sense of leadership is vulnerability. The willingness to be vulnerable with one another, to trust the vulnerability we hear in another’s voice is how we grow out of the chaos to reach toward something bigger and brighter for us all. But to that, we have to be in tune with our own vulnerabilities, to know what triggers us, so we know how to manage and maintain our responses. Trust the vulnerability that comes to your door – right now offering safety matters more than being right.
Undercurrents

aCE OF sWORDs (R)
Third Eye Chakra
“If it were easy, everyone would do it.” The challenges we are facing might have been enough to deter us before, but with everything we’ve been through we’re not going down without a fight! And of all the barriers that we face, don’t let overthinking be the one that takes you down. Don’t listen to the naysayers, haters, and faithless disbelievers, stay on your path and slay the impossible dragons that emerge. You won’t ever succeed by giving up.
Final Advice

Death (R)
Crown Chakra
We can’t cheat death of the lesson that she brings. We can delay it, deflect it, and even selfishly deny it, but ultimately these outcomes must come to pass, all things must end. This election won’t solve the inherent problems of our system, we won’t be able to cheat our way through another round of blind patriotism…sooner or later we have to face the inevitable death of systems that we once thought were undeniably permanent. But from this death comes growth and new life. How much of that new life we experience comes down to how much acceptance we are willing to pay to our current situation.
Parting words from a Geek Empress
Spoilers for Agatha All Along.

This past week we got the final episodes of Agatha All Along, including a culminating battle between Agatha and her old foe, Death. The final episode which detailed much of the character’s history as a mother, was just too real, too poignant for the kinds of choices we are asked to make now. We can bargain all we want, but sometimes the outcomes just can’t be avoided – change will come for us all.
The changes we are being asked to endure right now as a people will be influenced by our elections in the United States. While I see the point of saying “they’re both evil” there is nothing actionable that comes of that statement. It assures a certain outcome, nihilistic and cynical, not to mention cyclical. It assures of a quicker death, a more dramatic collapse that betrays not the “love and light” and “justice for all” mantras that are wrapped in the cloak of inevitability, but it negates the ever-surprising power of free will.
Is the death of our current system going to happen? While even the shiniest optimist in me says that this change is inevitable, it doesn’t have to ravage the soul of humanity in the process. There is such a thing as having control over our own collapse. We may not be able to control all the consequences, but we can at least be intentional in what we preserve and protect while the rest falls apart.
For those few of you who haven’t yet made a choice in this election, let me remind you that a quick death isn’t necessarily a painless one. Leaning into Trump, Project 2025, and the death cult of the GOP is gambling with the worst of humanity and expecting it to lose honorably when the end comes. Feeding patriarchy more power won’t protect us.
I am focused on feeding the messages of unity, of love, of “fuck, I know we can still do better, but I’m proud to stand alongside you while we try” that I see in Kamala Harris, progressive, queer, disabled, Black, and Indigenous movements that are aligning behind her. Does it stop the US imperial timeline? No, but voting for Kamala buys us space and resources to strengthen networks of care and build up the bench of heart-centered leaders who can deconstruct these systems more intentionally.
Do I want her to be stronger on Gaza? Yes, but I also want to preserve the right to protest so we can tell her that and demand action four months from now…which is almost guaranteed to be eliminated with the other guy. Frankly, I would rather we have the luxury of knowledge and awareness to inform the next steps than accelerate the trauma and further limit our options in survival mode. It’s all in how we want to encounter this particular systemic death – on our own terms or with a whimper of surprise as the leopard goes in for the kill?
No matter how these Messages find you this week, know that I am always with you in love 💖
