Intro Notes to the Deck & Reading
Funny enough, the last reading I posted here featured the Queen of Swords – Well, she makes a comeback….in the exact same position with a completely different deck. This week I’m getting huge Brienne of Tarth vibes along with this queen, offering me a better perspective than I had earlier.
Here’s what I said last time:
This isn’t a card I relate well to. The Queen of Swords is usually too severe, too silver-tongued to appeal much to me. This is why here, with Mother Earth, it’s notable. There is so much wrapped up in this card – a fierce call to action – one so important that she had to tell it to me twice. This message, however, will land differently with everyone who sees it.
Queen of Swords + Mother Earth = ???🤔
Messages of Divine Love: The Pain We Pass On
If you’ve noticed my social media, I spent the weekend rearranging my room. Listening to the advice of my guides and ancestors, I discovered that the placement of the bed was keeping me trapped in old patterns of trauma and hypervigilance. You can read more on my Patreon.
Today you get my first impressions of the cards from the Dreams of Gaia deck. One thing to remember about this deck is that while it has all the same tarot cards, several others don’t appear in a traditional tarot deck. The numbers are not the expected order of things…so the book is an essential tool when working with this deck.
The themes this week come through so loud and clear for me – how comparison fuels false pride and how resistance to help inhibits our liberation and healing. There are so many gorgeous layers here but I’m also working with an injury, so the write-up is going to be as quick and to the point as I can make it.
However, feel free to leave your own thoughts about what spoke to you in these cards.
Where We Are This Week

Healing (R)
Heart Chakra
This is not a traditional tarot card, one of the additions to the deck that make this both so rich and peculiar to work with. Here this card inserts itself front and center to call out our resistance to healing. We have been offered help, offered guidance, and given signs and answers, but we are still holding onto pain as an identity, our individualistic suffering as penance. We push away help, either because we feel we’re undeserving or because we think it earns us cosmic brownie points by doing things all by ourselves. Both of these ideas are rooted in fear – fear of being a burden, fear of not being enough – both driven by an overwhelming paradigm of systemic harms that keep us separated from each other. It is time to let go of the false pride and finally ask for and accept the offered help – it is there waiting for us!
Messages from our Guides

Faith
Crown Chakra
Our guides are showing up to remind us to have faith in ourselves. They are cheering us on, giving us wings to fly. The symbolism in this card speaks to a larger faith that connects humanity – a groundedness in the earth, a manifestation of abundance that flows with the seasons, in alignment with nature. It is a truth that could unite all of us if we just heed the messages we’ve been getting from Mother Earth inviting us back home to her embrace. However, none of that is possible if we don’t have faith. If we don’t believe we can create this world then we’ve already determined our fate. When we trust ourselves enough to try, we’ll find more true believers who want to connect. The message here is clear – have faith in yourself and in those who offer their support, including your guides and ancestors. So many people believe in us – isn’t it time that we do too?
Messages from Lady Gaia/Mother Earth

Queen of Air
Throat Chakra
Mother Earth is now just trolling me – demanding that I finally record the Queen or Swords meditation I’ve been working on. This is similar to a few weeks back when the Queen of Swords repeatedly showed up in this position. Time for us to heed the signal and be that force of independent thought in solving the world’s problems. Here’s what I wrote a few weeks ago:
As I mentioned earlier in the post, this card was so important that it had to be said both times I drew the cards – in the same position – that’s just not normal. But it’s deeper than what I put on the graphic – it isn’t just that communication is key to our leadership potential – it’s that our leadership must be built from the art of communicating with integrity. It’s almost too big of a topic to cover here. It’s about being precise & accurate with your words/data. It’s about giving others a chance to be heard. It’s about maintaining one’s own independent opinion as well as knowing how, when, and why to communicate it. It also means calling out injustices wherever we see them instead of intellectually cowering from the challenges ahead. But as I said, I want to hear from you – what does this card, as commanded by Mother Earth, mean to you?

Messages from the Ancients

Six of Water
Heart Chakra
As if to give us a litany of what we’ve been resisting, the ancients come sweeping in offering their helping hand, like the ghost of Christmas past – the one that reminds us of our innocence and trust, our promise and worth – before the world made us hard. Some of us have been resisting this through a displaced fear that we’ll be lectured, judged, disparaged – our very existence disputed. But our ancients assure us that once someone passes to the other side, all semblance of judgmental disruption fades away until only kindness, compassion, and purity remain. They are no longer concerned with the world but with our continued well-being and the well-being of humanity. Certainly, many schools of thought tell us to protect ourselves from “bad spirits” but I have found all “badness” is primarily just our unhealed shadow. When we believe in love then there is no darkness that we cannot soothe, no bad spirit we cannot comfort, no wretched soul we cannot touch. The more we reach back with love, the more help is offered back to us. Here, our ancestors are affirming that they are willing and able to offer us a hand, showing us the way of generosity and love – again, it all comes down to a willingness to trust and allow them to carry us forward with our healing.
Messages from Our Future Selves

Eight of Earth (R)
Root Chakra
One of my favorite shows is Brittania. This card reminds so much of one o the druid characters, Devis when he or his apprentices are not getting the point of something. A strong thunk to the head to drive home the point. Here, we’re being thwacked with a stick whenever we start comparing ourselves to others. It doesn’t matter what others have – it’s never what it seems anyway. Nor does it matter what others do with their lives so long as it doesn’t interfere with others’ right to live, it doesn’t have to worry us. Our future selves are concerned because the more we get stuck in comparisons, the less we are focused on building a world that doesn’t need them. How about keeping our eyes on our own work, our own blessings instead of constantly trying to copy and covet the work of others? Never mind cancel culture, it’s comparison culture that’s been bleeding us dry one jealous, bitter, self-inflicted cut at a time.
Messages from Mother Mary

Thought
Crown Chakra
Sassy Mother Mary is back to inform us that what will win the day is how we choose to think about ourselves and the world around us. Thoughts create reality and so truly, our liberation can be found in mastering our thoughts. I don’t mean the conventional toxic positivity of constantly monitoring our every negative reaction, denying our human emotions. But rather to be clear and intentional with our responses, open and curious with our analysis, and exacting and precise with our criticism. It means healing the compulsive need to judge everyone by colonizer standards, for example. It means confronting the confirmation bias swirling at the heart of our experience of the world. The only way we will unravel this mess is if we are honest and sincere about how we are constructing the intellectual framework of our problems and willing to shift our perspective to see what we’re missing. Nor can that happen in a vacuum – elevating humanity is the ultimate group project.
Undercurrents

Seven of Air (R)
Solar Plexus Chakra
When we find ourselves snapping off a judgment to someone else without even thinking of it, that’s a signal that our lives have already become imbalanced. It is creating a false urgency, a constructed doom feedback loop that will lead to extreme viewpoints and fundamentalism if we aren’t careful. In the undercurrent this week there will be all sorts of people who try to push our buttons, that try to steal our hope – especially during all the controversy we’ve already seen during Pride month. We need to hold the line without giving in to the impulsive anger that steals our time and energy. We cannot afford to keep throwing energy at manufactured losers, because it won’t get us closer to where we need to be. Instead of adding to the noise and the cacophony of madness, this week practice taking a step backward and seeing the lures and traps for what they are – time wasters that will take our eyes off the prize by making us just like them.
Final Advice

Desire (R)
Sacral Chakra
The message here is two-fold – a) honestly assess your desires and whether you are creating more destruction and harm just to get what you want and b) stop worrying so much about what anyone else wants or desires and work more on pursuing the desires that will bring joy to more than just you. There is an inherent disharmony with how the world prioritizes “me, me, me” when we need to be thinking about what will bring the most peace and joy to “we”. Think about what may be missing in the emotional integrity within to make people justify reckless excess in a world where so many are already suffering. What kind of empty husk might someone have in place of their heart to willingly exclude, shame, and threaten others out of mere desire? Deconstruct the narratives of power that lead so many to desire such reckless imbalance and unrestrained sophistry.
Parting words from a Geek Empress
Because the Queen of Swords has been prominent the past few weeks in all of my readings, it makes me invoke the spirit of one of my favorite characters in all of the Seven Kingdoms, Brienne of Tarth. A true knight if ever there was – fierce, protective, honest, unfailingly shrewd in how she sizes up her competition. She is truly, utterly incomparable. But she had to go through a whole lot of being on the outside looking in, of not seeing herself reflected in the ranks of the knighthood she wanted to get to this sweet, exquisite acknowledgment of her worth – not because she compared to anyone else, but because she and only she could have done what she’s done. She is deserving because of her heart, courage, loyalty, and skill…
…and so are you.
How much of our suffering centers around comparisons that we are making every day on social media? We see someone’s happy wedding photo but we somehow walk away finding fault in ourselves. Or we keep trying to get our message out there, but we see people with seemingly less expertise “make it”. It’s frustrating and hard when everywhere we look we seem to find evidence that we aren’t good enough. Each app becomes a fractured and distorted mirror where we constantly are confronted with the ways we “should” measure up, but don’t. It makes us prickly when we see others who feel seen when nothing shows us that we are too.
This week we invoke the goddesses of war, the patrons of wisdom, and the avatars of truth and call them to our side anytime we question our voice or our worth. Have them shield us from the whispers of doubt. Have them protect our flame of faith so it won’t flicker or flinch. A helping hand is there, all we have to do is allow ourselves to reach back with hope to find it.
No matter what happens this week, remember I am with you always in love 💖
