Intro Notes to the Deck & Reading
Take a nice, deep breath and thank the lucky stars that you made it to a new day. Tomorrow will be better than today, which is better than yesterday. We have lived through some difficult times lately. Challenging, even exhilarating at some times. But instead of a taste of the old, we got a clue by four to heart of why we can no longer go on the way we once did.
Thank you to all of you who have reached out and shared your stories, and trusted one another with the vulnerability of “Mercy, please!” that you were feeling. Never have I ever seen so many people go through the darkest weeks of their lives all at once. Each of us has been dealing with ancient wounds that started long before us. Centuries of dark suspicions, our forebears not feeling safe enough to be themselves, trapping queerness inside, or risking the rejection of a dominant force that benefits from our sadness.
Do yourself and everyone else a mercy and put down the swords – if even just for this week. Take it from this former peacemaker, everyone is disrupted by the evidence of climate change, the persistence of poverty, the alignment of state actors with corporate interests and it won’t get better before it gets worse. So, offer some good ol’ sympathy and choose not to take up useless fights this week against people who are already barely surviving.
We approach a new moon this week, an annular solar eclipse that will highlight the energy we bring into our relationships. As fellow inhabitants of planet Earth realize that our bodies already respond to the changing seasons of the moon and so too will our bodies respond to a “ring of fire” eclipse or the existential crisis of climate change. Lean into the energy of surrender – not surrendering your boundaries but through the humility of not having all the answers. If the “yes” calls to you – lean in. If the “no” calls to you – speak up to make that known. But let what you do this week be for you – a full expression of you. Not for anyone or anything else, not to serve someone else’s dream or protect anyone else’s feelings. And if you hurt those feelings, then take responsibility for it as well.
Let the direction you take be what serves your highest love for yourself or at least the love you would have had if the world hadn’t interfered so long ago.

Four of Swords
Throat Chakra
Whether you have been facing inner turmoil or a more external conflict, you lose nothing in taking a break. Even if you’re baited by voices of the past, just lay down the swords. There is no need for revenge or anger, just take a step back long enough to recognize how easily old patterns are reaching out for us right now. Take a deep breath and call for a truce. Allow the conflict to go un-escalated, un-answered, at least for a little bit…you’ll all be better off for it.

Loving another is easy – we can find compassion for a hard-luck story or a redemption arc that we find in our most intimate loves. But of course, it often feels impossible to reach for the love we can have for ourselves. Deceived into thinking that “choosing ourselves” is inherently selfish, we swallow down the consequences, the times we abandoned ourselves to adjust to the needs of that other person. But guess what might happen if we loved ourselves enough to find our voice and stand our ground? What might we find if we actually chose to live and love ourselves today? Even just a little bit…

It’s easy to get lost in the details of a story we created about our relationships that we fail to see what is and isn’t true. It’s easy to get lost in the romantic ideal, as much as it may or may not conform to the hetero-mono-normative we are told to want. And once someone doesn’t live up to that ideal, it’s easy to get lost in our disappointment, forever searching out a why…when the reasons are as simple and mysterious as our own whenever we take one path instead of another. Search not for the why of this, but instead be grateful for the information that gives you release and freedom once again.

Please know that part of the intensity we are feeling is coming from parts of us that existed generations, decades, and centuries ago. Passed down through the family line, we stand at the edge of the cliff, tempted to jump into a new world, but the old beckons and calls us back, forcing us to hide the dreams, or risk it all in a world that we can’t change by ourselves. Honor that intensity and give yourself room. You are healing past lives, ancestors, elders, yourself, and your children all at once. Please be kind to yourself (…and others).

I kept the same message as last week because we are finally close to a breakthrough. For the past few weeks I’ve mentioned, “If we have faith, the people who most need to hear our messages will have the openness of heart needed to find us. This is my prayer for me, you, and us together: An open heart will always hear the message.” These heart connections are closer, the beginnings of new partnerships, new love, but especially a new love for ourselves. Don’t let this week deter you when replenishment is so close.

We could keep fighting, keep spinning into conflict with everyone and everything around us, or we could surrender and lean into the lesson. Defeat might be too strong of a term, but if you keep fighting the lesson, you’re pushing yourself further you will only ever end up fighting yourself. Let go of the grudge match and just listen to the universe for once..

Third Eye Chakra
The same card and chakra as the undercurrent last week, reversed, when I said, “The hardest part is believing. We have the keys to release ourselves from the worry and anxiety of the past, but that knot of doubt clings to us and won’t let us go.” This week we might feel like we’ve taken a step back. Maybe dropped the key or forgotten who we really are. Don’t let the confusion of the week deter you from freeing yourself of the illusions of your confinement. The way may seem less clear than it ever was before, but that’s so we finally learn to trust ourselves fully.

Do not discount how difficult the world is right now. Whole towns have been eliminated by flooding. Ancestral trauma over the wounding of our earth continues to manifest. Genocide threatens to burn our souls with complicity. AND employers playing fast and loose with AI without donating any support to the workers they are displacing. The economy we thought we had to prepare for is dying in a cloud of chemical smoke…and yet, all we can seem to do is point the fingers of blame at each other. Instead of reaching across raging floods and fires to support each other, we will bicker and whine that someone didn’t perform perfectly for our benefit…the undercurrent this week urges us to consider…maybe…I dunno…growing the fuck up and not adding more turmoil to the tirade. Don’t pick fights with people who are on your side.
Final Advice

Don’t be surprised if none of your old formulas work anymore. The old way of manifesting money presumed a certain tolerance for manipulative techniques, an unspoken commitment to look the other way on hatred or injustice, a willingness to lean on dualities of yes/no, good/bad, and dark/light to get your own way…after all, we’ve all gotta look out for ourselves, don’t we? Except the energy of this eclipse is that we can’t have it both ways. We can’t be advocating for an open-hearted humanity and still be hiding secrets from our most significant others. We can’t be for an interconnected humanity and still selfishly protect borders as if we are meant to be separate. This week will expose where we’ve been dependent on those old formulas in our lives – it’s going to give off some mad-scientist-gone-wrong-vibes until we realign to what our truth is…and modulate how we show up together for our shared dilemmas and goals.
Parting words from a Geek Empress
How many of you have heard some version of “You can’t love anyone else until you love yourself”? How did it make you feel? What hope did it give or take away from you?
It always felt like an impossible goal for me. My whole life I had felt this knot at the pit of my stomach that said, “There is something so deeply different and irredeemable about you that no one, including you, will ever be able to love you.” I sought confirmation in the slightest rejection, the absences, the silences, the avoidance of eye contact. Any rejection equaled confirmation; whereas, every acceptance was just a penny on the scale. The rejections were real, but the love I received wasn’t. After all, I reasoned, since I can’t love anyone until I love myself, all the love I receive must not be real. So, I rejected it right back because I couldn’t keep that if I didn’t love myself.
A funny thing happens when the universe gives you no choice but to receive – it hits you like a fire hose – pushing your ego back against the wall until you finally learn to take it like a giddy grown-up. And when it fizzles out, making you think it was another cosmic mistake, it hits you again forcing you to face the impossible reality that yeah…that was really FOR you. It’s in that moment that you realize, even if you never feel that again, that you love your life more for having experienced it at all…that love. That love from another is often what gives us the strength to find a thread of love for ourselves too.
Follow those breadcrumbs this week. We have to channel many different realities at once. We are the connection between two impossible worlds – one based on greed and separation, the other based on love and sharing. Like Thor, this stirs up every last insecurity we have felt in our connections with others, temptations to give up and prove ourselves as unworthy as the world (and our inherited guilt) told us to feel.
But this is the only way to leave behind the old – to experience it and fight for something better. That is how we prove our love for not just humanity but our part of humanity’s story. We have to believe in the impossible if we are ever going to make room for it in our lives. It might take all the strength you have, but hang on…we’re almost there.
