Intro Notes to the Deck & Reading
I admit, I was in a pretty disillusioned state when I chose the deck for this week’s reading. I rarely reach for the Santa Muerte Tarot except when I want to hear from my ancestors. It had been a rough week of ups and downs, hard work confronting old demons and once abundant blessings falling into silence in my wake.
What has been delivered this week offers sincere hope for the journey ahead with a righteous air of “I said what I said” from last week’s reading. Reminding us that we’ve been given new orders, a new mission to fulfill, it offers us a glimpse into how well-supported we really could be…if we choose to see it.
That there has been an extraordinary amount of grief in the world is not lost on anyone, it’s made it hard to embrace the passion of our new roles. When we shove away the smaller blessings trying to make their way through, we remain tethered to the old roles.
There is still a rebirth waiting in the wings, a tremendous deliverance that still is making its way to us. If the message last week was about making room for the divine to deliver, this week’s is about igniting the flame without needing tangible proof.
What will it take for us to trust in the patience of this process?

Is it safe to say that I know a thing or two about being “on a mission from God”? When we’re starting out the programming of the world tells us that we should prepare for a linear, goal-directed operation. But rarely is life that predictable. Most of the time it’s circuitous, folding in on itself, making us feel like every attempt to move forward to our goal only sets us back three more steps. There comes a point where we have to finally realize that a calling isn’t about a goal, but about a way of living, of using our influence to show up in the moment and trust the higher purpose involved. Sometimes we might not know why we’ve been placed where we are, but if we are moving forward with a passion to bring a bigger vision of life, we can find small and big ways to make a difference right where we are. That is the calling.

We had this card in this exact position last week. That’s pretty rare and indicates a continuance of that same advice, which I’ve left here for you. Considering I just got this same card in my own reading this morning, it begs a universal theme for all of us – why is it so hard to let go and trust in this natural rebirth?
Our beauty is not found in the lasting achievements written in stone, but in the glowing, thriving spark of divinity we keep safe within. When that comes alive, all else melts away. Truly all the hardship and pain has been to help us find that truth that resides within – the soul purpose we are here to birth into the world. But for that to happen, we must let go of the old and allow ourselves the gift of surrender.

When you embark on a calling, you are asked to leave behind the familiar to embrace the possibility of your greatest dreams coming true. Even when you know it’s best for your spirit, there is a nagging guilt. “I have to stay here to take care of x” or “If I’m not here, the clients will never be served”. Guilt is often the clarion call of doubt, a presumption that doing the scary new thing will let down everyone who depends on you. The guilty excuses that are stopping you from hearing the call of the universe will be exposed tangibly this week. You’ll need to decide between Will they ever forgive me if I go? and Will I ever forgive myself if I don’t?

The future has been entrusted to our care. Our ancestors have packed up the time capsule that holds all their memories and traditions intact – or at least the ones worth carrying on. See, our very bodies hold their secrets. From the fractures of the soul to the strength of their resolve, the traditions we are carrying forth have been weeded out from the fear and frustration, scarcity and deception of the past and instead are the golden threads of hope that can inform future generations that come after us…the very ones who will then carry our hopes into the later realizations of our work.

With Judgment reversed showing up in our tangible reality, the World, the next card in the Tarot progression shows up in the future self to show us how this was all cyclical in the first place. The world that we want to create is much closer than we think. We are building it in the here and now. Our old missions are coming to a close and our new ones are launching as we speak. Ordinarily, this position is about the more distant future, anywhere from 6-24 months. But here, I think we’re due to have this message settle in, to feel secure in our systems (the root chakra) by summer.

It’s gonna feel sacrilegious to say this, but Mother Mary wants us to lean into our praise kink this week. We have accomplished a lot worth celebrating out loud. We each have something to celebrate, particularly the hard-won healing of the past few months and years. Be loud and proud about this. It isn’t boasting, it’s sharing what is possible with more people who are just starting the emotional/spiritual/physical healing you just finished. In particular, notice who shows up to celebrate your successes – these are the keepers who recognize your true worth. Likewise, it’s equally good to celebrate the wins of others vociferously – because what good is that energy if we’re not also passing it along to others? Being kind and telling someone “Job well done” costs nothing. Bypass the negativity this week and instead focus on the thunderous applause we can give each other for the courage it took to get where we are!

Last week’s reading had “Patience” (Temperance) in this same position. This week it’s less of a “big picture” message of patience, but a more pragmatic advice: put in the work. You’re done with experimenting and now you’re in the building phase where you have to apply your judgment as a “reasonably prudent person” to stay on track. This phase often puts pressure on us to deliver ahead of schedule, causing us to overthink and doubt the process. No. Things might be feeling a little pressured or even stagnant but resist the urge to mess with the things that are working. Continue down this path and see where it leads – only then should you recalculate your risk.
Final Advice

Third Eye Chakra
Despite what modern conservatives would have you think, we are not getting away from “traditional values” we are instead running toward them…just not the traditions they thought🤷♀️. Instead, we are reclaiming the wisdom of lineages lost to humanity. The threads of tradition once buried with the bones of our ancestors and elders are now rising into our power. Pay close attention to who presents themselves as a teacher right now. Say yes only to those who speak to your calling, not those projecting themselves as the “one and only way” to truth. The Hierophant is both the keeper of order (oppressive) and the spiritual teacher (enlightening) – two sides of the same preachy coin. There is no need to throw the baby out with the bathwater but do take a discerning eye to the messages that are coming forth from various teachers and guides and listen to those that most support where we’re going, not where we’ve been.

When I first left my director (and attorney) role at a homelessness & disability nonprofit in early 2020, my original plan had been to conduct trauma-informed care trainings one of the menu of options for my nonprofit consulting business. I was escaping burnout, but staying in the industry that caused it in the first place.
Then came lockdown and everything changed…again…and again…and again. Today, I’m no longer practicing law, I do these weekly Messages of Divine Love, offer Reiki sessions, and teach more about consent & relationships than I do about trauma-informed care or legislative advocacy. And yet…so much stays the same. I have two board meetings this week, am consulting on at least one grant, helping with resourcing and advocacy.
Sometimes you pivot and sometimes you reinvent…And sometimes you stay in this weird in-between limbo. In this case, I still have a foot planted firmly in both kinds of work – making it difficult for clients to find me because they’re always looking for one not both of these. And yet, that’s where the process has brought me. Because until someone builds a bridge between these worlds, no one will ever know that this is an ideal place for me to serve…especially me.
That’s where we are this week. There is a lot of uncertainty about the spaces we inhabit. We’re both here – holding up an old world, but we’re also there – creating a new one. We’re told to stand still and trust the process, yet, we feel a drive to keep moving. The energy I feel is this almost frenetic quest that makes sense to no one else but us – like Starbuck in season 4 of Battlestar Galactica.
Welcome to what it feels like to be on a mission. I promise we won’t be here forever, but until people start seeing the connections between where we’ve been and where we’re going, we’re going to have to keep up the work just a little bit longer.
