Intro Notes to the Deck & Reading
For the past year, it has felt like we’re surfing the waves of the darkest timeline. People are falling for misinformation, AI is drafting policy, and movie studios are shelving near-finished products (I am still pissed I was robbed of Snowpiercer season 4!). Democrats won’t oppose genocide and Trump is losing his marbles onstage every night to thunderous applause. Up is down, left is right, evil is good, and bad is in again. If there were any angels left in heaven, surely they are drunk at the wheel right now, speeding through our neighborhood at 50 miles per hour.
For at least a year now the messages have been focusing heavily on the rise of a certain kind of compassionate and thoughtful leadership (the kinds of leaders I train). Many have felt this call inching closer and closer until it is no longer a call, but a building groundswell of energy.
Mine started in the darkest oceans of the earth. A divine king witnessed my calling, scattered his seed with my words planting my intentions in the depths of the Dark Mother herself. From there I could feel an unlocking, the brass tumblers on an ancient chest clicking into place, the lid creaking open to finally give the dark goddess her freedom at last. At long, long last.
This ceremony, one of many that lovers’ trysts and friendship knots were twisting into being, is creating the energy we need for the tide to finally turn on this battle against the evil we’ve fed ourselves to survive. No more…
But that doesn’t mean it will be sunshine and rainbows all the time. We might have grown a little too big for our britches and we might find ourselves humbled, particularly in those opinions we love to bandy about like a club. Just because we are living on the darkest timeline doesn’t mean we have to act like it ourselves. Just like last week was about recalibrating, this is about facing facts about how much we’re letting our fear drive the bus. I hope this week’s theme gives you an idea of where we can shore up our understanding of ourselves and our place in this new world we are building.

Throat Chakra
There is good reason for us to be proud of our accomplishments. But the more that we taunt others with it, the more often haters, arguers, and time wasters will come calling at our door demanding a debate. Every day social media threatens to drown us in a sea of “well, actuallys” and whataboutisms that will lead nowhere. If we attend every fight we’re invited to, we’ll drive ourselves mad in self-defense. Speaking from experience, there is great peace to be won in the act of giving zero f*cks to anyone who comes at you in bad faith.

Third Eye Chakra
Maybe it’s just me but this seems to be the year of the Star card. It seems to be popping up all over the place. When it’s reversed, it’s as if our guiding light, our source of hope is obscured from our field of vision. And yet, the next night, the next week, there it is shining bright and beautiful just as it always was. The worst that has ever come from hope is an unwillingness to give into darkness; yet, the worst that has ever come from doubt has been giving up when something could have been done. Choose the future you want to create.

Crown Chakra
Here is the gist – we are not here to be stuck in a world of duality and opposites. We are here to create a world of blended truths, interconnected processes, and dynamic systems of support. We have become so hyper-fixated on the either/or equation lumping ourselves into ceaseless piles labeled “same” and “different”. Yet, consider the reality in which all of us are ever-evolving. Even identical twins aren’t ever truly “the same” there is always variance. So why is the world working so hard to divide people into male and female, as if our most basic genetic, physical, socio-emotional identifications are somehow all of who we are? Healing the sickness of duality is the first step toward healing the earth.

Five of Cups
Sacral Chakra
The past always beckons us to remember, to mourn, to examine, to forgive. Yet, the patterns that have come up for us recently, threaten to pull us under with grief and remorse. Crying into our cups over wounds that were inflicted a lifetime ago, there is such a thing as overstaying your welcome at the wake. Mourn if you must, so long as remembering the loss doesn’t cause you to abandon the opportunities still waiting in the wings.

Solar Plexus Chakra
I’m getting a sort of deflated sense of purpose from this card. Like everyone showed up for the parade, but realized it really wasn’t worth celebrating, like the accomplishment is moot. Check-in on your goals this week and see if there are any that might now be obsolete, either because you’ve changed or because the world has. Align yourself with the victories that make you come alive.

Root Chakra
Mother Mary always points us to the bridge between our past and our future. Here, she points to the cycles of nature – the warming of spring, the thawing of the cold, the longer days. If we lean into our cycles, we can easily escape the regrets of the past while still pushing ourselves toward the future that we want. Lean into the cycles right now, learn from them, and let them inspire you.
Undercurrents
Three of Swords (R)
Heart Chakra
The heart has been having out in the undercurrent, giving us a chance to check in with ourselves before dipping our toes back into the currents of humanity. Before we can fully serve the way we need to, we have to remove the swords from our hearts – the one that keeps punishing us for the past, the ones that keep sabotaging our relationships because of the actions of others (punishing ourselves through proxy is fun, right?) It’s time to give up the precious pain and suffering and start making a life for yourself.
Final Advice
The Empress
Solar Plexus Chakra
For all that, the male-centric forces of the world keep rattling swords and dropping rockets to prove their useless point, in the background, in the undercurrent the Empress is rising. The divine feminine leaders (not all cis women, thank you so much) are rising out of the tides of the ocean, gaining strength and momentum until we flood the earth with the kind of soft power that only we can create. This card was especially potent for me this week as it is my renewal of spirit that rose out of the darkest oceans into the being I am today.
Parting words from a Geek Empress
The times we are encountering all serve a purpose. Even the abjectly bad Supreme Court ruling that allows Trump to stay on the ballot in my home state (I truly think they got the law wrong…making me double down on the reasons why I had to leave the legal profession). And while I sure do have opinions that I could share here, this highlights the tension we have during this week.
We keep waiting for institutions, leaders, and systems to save us. We believe wholeheartedly in democracy, but if this is what it produces then maybe we need to consider something else. We believe wholeheartedly in the rule of law, but if this is what it produces, maybe there can be a better way. We believe wholeheartedly in the use of objectivity in decision-making, but when it results in such fascist-baiting outcomes, I’m not sure it’s helping the way we expect.
In order for a new type of leader to emerge, a heart-centered one that prioritizes a more compassionate, integrated interconnected type of value system, one that wouldn’t try to pass off 30,000 dead Palestinians as self defense…because there wouldn’t be 30,000 dead at all – there wouldn’t be apartheid or collective punishment. There would be dignity, abundance, and community for all.
The only leaders for me are those who are actively working to build a better world, especially while our institutions continue to fail over and over again.
